A rush of water bellows through the oceans, lakes, and waterfalls every day. And, even though, our Earth is constructed on more than 70% of water, less than 3% of it is available to drink. Every day billions upon billions of people take the flow of faucets and shower heads they have for granted. Sitting is 750 million people who lack the access to safe drinking water, and a total of 2.5 billion people don’t have water that’s purified completely. Innovations have helped this crisis that lays upon the world, inventions that are jaw dropping because of how revolutionizing they are. From something so simple such a straw, the Lifestraw, to a sack that purifies the water, the Life Sack, it's all there. These inventions have changed the whole field of water purification and provided a water source for thousands of people.
History of Water Purification
The process of purifying water dates back to 4000 BC. Methods used by the Greeks and the ancient worlds to purify water were developed for the same reason we need to have clean water today, because all living beings need a water source. One of the methods that was used was called distillation. If you were to define this word using Google, it would come up as : the action of purifying a liquid by a process of heating and cooling. And that is exactly what distillation is. But the most common way to purify water, sometimes still used, seems to be using chemicals such as chlorine. This method has been used for a long period of time, but has health hazards tied in. Chemicals can obviously harm the human body, so using chemicals is not the safest way to clean water. Third world countries also can not always access these special chemicals to purify their water, with new inventions water is purified in a safer and easier way.
